These Key Terms explain, in plain English, how Battery 1st Energy’s optional smart energy features work.
These features may include things like smarter battery charging and discharging, export support, tariff-aware control, and access to certain flexibility or grid-related opportunities where available.
This page is a summary only. If you choose to activate an optional smart energy feature in the Battery 1st app, you will also be shown the full feature terms in-app before activation.
1. What Smart Energy Services are
Battery 1st Energy may offer optional smart energy features designed to help your system operate more intelligently.
Depending on your setup, these services may help your system:
- charge at better times
- discharge more intelligently
- make better use of solar generation
- support export where available
- respond to tariff opportunities
- participate in selected flexibility or grid-support programmes where eligible
Not every customer, property, device or tariff setup will qualify for every feature.
2. How these services work
If you enable a Smart Energy Service, your system may use connected data, system rules and service logic to make or recommend decisions about how your battery or connected energy equipment should operate.
Depending on the feature, this may include:
- charging during lower-cost periods
- preserving stored energy for later use
- adjusting discharge timing
- supporting export where enabled
- responding to certain energy events or service opportunities
Some features may run automatically once enabled, subject to your settings, equipment capability and the relevant service rules.
3. What data may be used
To provide Smart Energy Services, Battery 1st Energy may use relevant information such as:
- battery and inverter telemetry
- solar generation data
- import and export data
- half-hourly smart meter data where available
- tariff and time-of-use information
- device status and capability information
- system health and fault data
- event, optimisation and reward records
We use this information to help deliver the feature, support performance, manage service quality and, where relevant, administer participation in eligible programmes.
For more detail on how personal data is used, please see our Privacy Policy.
4. Specialist technology partners
Battery 1st Energy may use specialist service providers and infrastructure partners to help deliver Smart Energy Services.
These partners may support areas such as:
- optimisation logic
- connected device integrations
- event handling
- data processing
- communications
- settlement or rewards administration
- flexibility or energy-market participation
We remain your main customer-facing provider for the Battery 1st app experience, but some optional smart energy features may rely on third-party service infrastructure operating behind the scenes.
5. Your control and your settings
Smart Energy Services are optional.
Where available, you may be able to:
- choose whether to enable a feature
- review certain settings
- switch an eligible feature off
- set certain preferences, such as reserve behaviour or participation choices
However, some services only work properly if the system can operate automatically within defined technical and service rules. That means there may be limits on manual overrides, timing choices or feature customisation while the service is active.
The app and the full service terms will explain what level of control applies to each feature.
6. Savings, export and earnings
Smart Energy Services are designed to improve how your system operates, but savings, export income and service rewards are not guaranteed.
Actual outcomes depend on many things, including:
- your property and usage profile
- weather and solar generation
- tariff structure and rate changes
- battery and inverter capability
- connectivity and metering
- export permissions and setup
- programme availability
- market conditions
- third-party partner performance
Where we refer to export, flexibility or being paid for supporting the grid, this will always be subject to eligibility, technical compatibility, programme terms and available opportunities.
7. Export and grid-related opportunities
Some Smart Energy Services may include access to export or grid-related opportunities, but these are not universal and may not be available to every customer.
Participation may depend on:
- compatible hardware
- suitable communications and telemetry
- a valid meter setup
- export permissions
- geographic availability
- active programmes
- partner requirements
- regulatory or supplier rules
Battery 1st Energy does not guarantee that any specific export, flexibility or reward opportunity will always be available.
8. Service limits and availability
Smart Energy Services may sometimes be limited, paused or unavailable.
This can happen for reasons including:
- maintenance or updates
- hardware faults
- firmware changes
- connectivity problems
- incomplete or delayed data
- changes to third-party platforms
- legal or regulatory changes
- programme suspension or withdrawal
- safety, technical or operational constraints
We may also update, improve, replace or withdraw features from time to time where reasonably necessary.
9. Separate full terms apply at activation
Before you activate an optional Smart Energy Service in the app, you will be shown the full terms for that feature.
Those full terms will contain the detailed legal terms covering things like:
- eligibility
- activation
- service operation
- customer responsibilities
- control permissions
- suspension or termination
- liability
- and any payment or reward rules
If there is any difference between this summary page and the full in-app terms, the full in-app terms will take priority for that feature.
10. Important customer points
Before enabling a Smart Energy Service, please keep these points in mind:
- the feature is optional
- not all systems are eligible
- some services may run automatically once enabled
- savings or earnings are not guaranteed
- export or rewards may depend on third-party programmes
- service availability may change over time
- full terms will be shown before activation
